Is Twitter automation against the rules?

Automation itself is permitted. X publishes an automation policy and an API precisely because automated accounts are an expected part of the platform. What the policy prohibits is spam, deception, and bulk aggressive behavior — the same things a person would be suspended for doing by hand.

The four workflows actually worth automating

Everything else — scheduling posts, generating threads, auto-liking — is either a different category of product or a bad idea.

Most free Twitter automation tools are Chrome extensions that drive your logged-in session from inside the page. They stop when you close the tab, so your pacing is erratic in exactly the way you were trying to avoid — bursts while you work, nothing overnight.

What to check before choosing one

Does it cap daily actions, and can you see the cap? A tool with no ceiling is a tool that will eventually be used without one.

Does it keep running when your laptop is closed? A tool that only works while a tab is open will pace your account in bursts.

Does it report follow-back and reply rates per source? Without that you cannot tell which targeting works, and you will optimize on volume instead.

And does it tell you what it cannot do? A tool promising unlimited cold DMs is either misinformed about the platform or counting on you not reading the policy.

What automation will not fix

It will not make a thin profile worth following. Automation delivers visits; your bio, pinned post and recent writing decide what happens next. Sending more traffic to a profile that gives people no reason to stay just wastes better targeting.

It will not generate something worth saying. The accounts that grow with these tools are the ones already posting; automation compounds an existing signal rather than creating one.

And it will not work in a week. Conservative daily limits mean the first month is slow on purpose. The accounts that survive are the ones that started slow.
